“All Things Come of Thee and to Thine Own Have We Given Thee”
Tithes and Offerings
We are told in the Bible that tithes and offerings are our way of showing God thanksgiving for all His provision. He tells us to return unto His house 10% of our increase and add offerings from the overflow of blessings we have received from His hand. Under the Old Covenant, the Israelites were to bring the first offerings of their harvest and cattle. They had several different types of offerings we can read about in the first five books of the Bible. There was even an interest charged for those who “borrowed” from their tithes of five percent.
Leviticus 27:30-32 King James Version
“30 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord‘s: it is holy unto the Lord. 31 And if a man will at all redeem ought of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth part thereof. 32 And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the Lord.”
God’s view of tithes and offerings is very clear in the Old Testament:
Malachi 3:8-11 King James Version (KJV)
“8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. 10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. 11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts. Jesus also tithed as did the disciples and He taught much about giving of your substance. His own life was laid down as an offering to God, the Father. We are also promised blessings by our obedience in giving.”
In the New Testament, Jesus and the disciples taught much about giving and receiving:
Luke 6:38 King James Version (KJV)
38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
Matthew 6:19-24 King James Version (KJV)
“19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
Galatians 6:7 King James Version (KJV)
“7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
2 Corinthians 9:6 King James Version (KJV)
“6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.”
Giving to the Lord Today…
In the day we live, most of us don’t bring our cattle, sheep or grain to the Lord’s House. We bring our tithes and offerings from the money we have earned during the week. Thankfully, we can now give our tithes and offerings on-line as well as when we meet at the physical House of the Lord.
We at Covenant Life Church of God are careful stewards of God’s money. We not only use it to care for the daily needs of the church but also give into missions, both local and foreign. We do our part in our Church of God fellowship and any other ministry the Lord leads us to share in.
We invite you to use this convenient means to share in the work of the Lord with us. Click the link below and you may give to us through Easytithe Portal.
