Welcome to Covenant Life
Rev. Dennis Langford, Senior Pastor
In 1974 Pastors Dennis and Sharon Langford began a full time ministry for the Lord as evangelists. Pastoral ministry began for them in 1977, pastoring the Jasper Church of God. They began their ministry in Leesburg/Fruitland Park in 1990 at what was the Church of God at the corner of Center and Fifteenth Streets in Leesburg. In January of 2001, the church in Leesburg merged with Triumphant Ministries Church in Fruitland Park at the corner of CR 468 and Urick Street to become Covenant Life Church of God. The confluence of God’s grace and the leading of the Holy Spirit have carried them and their congregation along through the years.
One of Sharon’s favorite Bible verses is: “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I (Jesus) have come that they may have life, and that they may have it abundantly.” John 10:10 KJV
Dennis’ favorite Bible verse: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
From the heart of Pastor Dennis Langford: As a young man I grew up in the home of a local church pastor. My participation in church wasn’t always optional. My parents strongly believed in church attendance. When we were children at home my three siblings and I had no choice but to comply with their wishes. I heard someone with similar upbringing describe our plight as a “drug problem”. We were “drug” to church Sunday morning and evening, Wednesday evening and prayer meeting nights and for sure, to all revival services. As an adult and a parent I have come to appreciate my heritage from my parents. It was during this time as a child that biblical foundations were formed in me through teaching, relationships and fellowship with God’s people. Prayer was always a part of my growing up years and I am deeply indebted to my mother and my dad for instilling in me the necessity of prayer. I have learned through their example and practice that prayer is always appropriate in any setting.
Though they did not know this in their lifetime, I have used the acronym P.U.S.H. (pray until something happens) in the face of different challenges with great success and victory. As my parents demonstrated the P.U.S.H. model before me I also learned the value and preminence of prayer in my work as a pastor/church leader. The life source of the church has always been and continues to be its committment to pray. Developing a habit of prayer should be a primary objective of every believer who is serious about faith and kingdom work. Before the Great Commission or the Great Commandment can be effectively fulfilled, believers must make a Great Committment to Prayer, calling upon God for His anointing and guidance.
From the heart of Sharon Langford: Serving my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and being a laborer in ‘His Kingdom Work’ has been foremost in my life for 57 plus years. The Holy Spirit led me to a saving relationship with Jesus when I was a child at Linden Church of God. I have always loved church, loved the Bible, loved Gospel music, loved family, friends, the family of God, and loved serving in ministry! The Lord has blessed me with a godly husband who shares these joys with me! Together, we have been in full time ministry since 1974.
Our home is a haven to Dennis and I and we continue to make many wonderful memories with our immediate family (Randy and Joy, Cabe, Micah, Zachary; Jeremy and Marla, Benjamin, Carter) as well as extended family. In addition to my family and church responsibilities, I am also a licensed educator with Kindermusik International and have my own Kindermusik business locally.
I enjoy connecting with people and sharing love and encouragement as I have opportunity. I live life with an eternal perspective. I enjoy the daily journey ‘trying to make the most of every opportunity’ and at the same time I BELIEVE ‘the BEST is yet to come’!
Discipleship-Pure and Simple
Being a disciple of Jesus means that you know, believe in and follow His teachings in your life by the choices you make. If you are serious about discipleship you will:
1) Read the Bible everyday for wisdom about how to live for Him,
2) Pray to God about your life everyday, and
3) Trust God with every detail of your life.
Being a disciple of Jesus is not difficult. It just requires personal commitment and partnership with the Holy Spirit.
